Google Analytics Hacks
Image by Search Engine People Blog via Flickr

During the last several weeks I’ve been consulting various online companies on the importance of tracking their website analytical data. Website analytics, in its simplest form, is the statistical data gleaned from visits to a respective site. Tracking the visits to one’s site could be considered to be one of the most important endeavors a webmaster dares to undertake. What is being missed in the overall web marketing strategy of a company? How can a website owner increase sales to her/his e-commerce site based upon information captured with web analytics tools?

Knowing exactly where your website visitors get to your page from, as well as how long and which particular page they remain on, are of the utmost importance for an online business. Capturing the demographics of prospective customers will tell you about possible marketing channels that you may want to visit in the near future. Tracking your visitor bounce rate (rate at which a user enters and leaves a particular page) can give you positive insight on possibly enhancing your visitor’s experience to retain readership.

While a lot of software companies out there may be competing for your Dollars Read the rest of this entry

Search Engine QuestionA few days ago the search engine giant known as Google announced the unveiling of new functionality for its acclaimed search engine. The Google Adwords blog post, dated September 8, 2010, made the announcement detailing the new Google search functionality. Google Instant is basically a new way that Google is going about serving advertisements to its online citizens.

Google Instant is a new interface who’s functions will affect both paid and organic search results. For those new to the terminology, paid search encompasses those advertisements that show up, upon your entering in a search term in Google’s search engine, at the very top and right-hand portion of the Google search homepage. All of the organic, or regular, traffic shows up in the left-hand portion of the Google search page.

Google made it a point to note that Google Instant will not change the way ads and organic search are served, but both will now be shown based on the “predicted search”.  You may have noticed recently, on the Google search homepage, that results are now being displayed in near real time as you’re typing in your search query. This, my dear friends, is Google Instant in action.

“So now, Eric, what about my paid advertisements and their impression rates”? “If I’m paying by the impressions…will I lose money”? Read the rest of this entry

In the world of online marketing I’m frequently asked questions on how to stay current with the latest software. What software, out there, will help my business to maintain its competitive edge? To answer that question, I feel that simplicity beats out complexity any day. To that end I introduce Wakoopa. This web 2.0 online social community boasts one of the best, if not the best, means for an online marketer to stay up to date on the latest trends in software usage.

The creators of wakoopa have done a pretty good job of providing their users with relevant and real-time statistical information on exactly what is hot on the web at any given time. Upon sign up a user is asked to download their Wakoopa tracker, which pulls information about your most recently used software. I know that some of you out there may see a privacy issue involved, but you are fully able to negate the tracker from tracking your online stats. Read the rest of this entry

Microsoft Bing has currently reached a milestone in its business operations, as it has announced a new partnership between itself and the Yahoo search platform. A recent Bing Blog post, dated August 24, 2010, stated that the search powerhouse would now be powering Yahoo’s search results in the U.S. and Canada. Just the other day I received an email from Bing detailing this, as well as other pertinent information.

Evidently the new functionality will also enable one to move their Yahoo search campaigns directly into their Microsoft Adcenter account. For those who currently don’t have a Yahoo Search Marketing account, they are encouraged to prepare their search campaigns for Yahoo by using the Microsoft Advertising Intelligence to gain current search statistics and tailor keywords/campaign details accordingly.

As with any merger of this magnitude, the benefit to the marketing team increases insomuch as one’s ability to capitalize off of this “new found” traffic source. Is this Bing’s answer to the giant known as Google? Read the rest of this entry

Greetings all. I’ve been thinking of an alternative way to turn a profit out of un-used or under-performing domains. Have you ever been faced with the dilemma of trying to decide on the best in domain parking solutions? How about trying to monetize a site that was parked? Domain parking is a process, offered by most domain registrar services, that allows for an owner of  a website or web address to customize their domain names. Once parked, basic advertisements are placed on this domain in the hopes that some revenue would be shared with you via the parking service’s PPC platform. I’m sure you’ve seen these parked domains before, as they tend to be really simple in design with not a lot to visually draw one in.

When thinking about a solution for your parked domain, as a general rule, you’ll want to cover the following criteria: Read the rest of this entry
