Every Internet Marketer would love tons of highly targeted traffic to his or her website. While there are several paid services that are available, and work for the most part, I know that you’d like to know of some FREE ways to increase your site’s visibility on the Internet (as you should). What Free ways are there, out there, to broadcast your particular site or offer to a wider audience?

Enter:  Alexa.com. No, seriously, go to their website and have a look around (smile).

boasts of  being “the web information company” with functionality to give current, up to date and precise website information…but with a few stipulations.

One of those “catches” being that your website has to reach a certain popularity, before statistical data will show up for it on the Alexa website.  If you go to Alexa and type in a particular URL, it may show up, but without any much-needed data that YOU can use to gauge your competition online. The following tips are some of my personal favorites for getting more exposure to affiliate products, websites or new offers:

1. Register your site with Alexa – Once you sign up and go to the “for site owners” tab, you will be given the option to copy a piece of code to put on your website. This allows for fast tracking of your website statistics. Once your site is ranking well, in the near to far future, you may then want to look into putting an Alexa stats widget on your blog to show off your rankings. People like to see rankings as it shows your sites popularity and standing throughout the world. More standing equals more respect. This trickles down, eventually, into more subscribers and possible customers.

2. What’s hot? – The “what’s hot” tab shows the current most-popular sites on the net. You’ll want to find sites within your particular IM niche and JOIN TODAY (smiles)! If a website is not able to be “joined”, in the traditional sense, then look for its blog tab. Most popular sites have blogs and you should leave comments on these blogs. With increasing trends in web 2.0 technology, there are several ways to leave comments on websites:

Regardless of the method, you want to ensure that the login or website information that you provide points back to your website. Take not that you first have to determine if the website, in question, has their comment settings set to “follow” or “no follow”.  This subject is beyond the scope of this post, but you can find out more about it here:

and use a free tool in your Internet Marketing efforts geared at tracking follow/nofollow links:

3. Site Info – This is the place to enter the url of your competition and gain positive insights on just where, exactly, they are getting their traffic from. The following picture describes just what this tool can do for you:

Once you’ve sized up competitor’s methods of traffic generation, it becomes a simple method to duplicate these efforts for you own business.

4. Alexa Toolbar – A simply must-have addition to your web browser. This tool will let you keep up to date stats from the comfort of your own browser. This is useful if you don’t want to keep going back to their main website.

5. Backlink Strategy – Say, for example, you found a high-ranking website in the niche that you’re promoting. The question that needs to be answered is…how did this site become so popular? Finding a site’s back links is an excellent way to do what I call “reverse engineer success” or, more importantly, get higher visibility to your nich/website by participation in highly relevant networks. Within a site’s statistical data on , there is an option to view the websites that are linking in to it. Once you have this information you can then work to get these same backlinks. You can do this by joining sites, commenting on relevant post and providing useful information to site owners/patrons in your niche. This will increase traffic to your own site.

6. Alexa Help System – Need further help or useful tips to generate more traffic to your site? Then you should really learn from the experts. Alexa has a useful help forum that you should frequent, regularly, in order to get FREE tips on what has been most useful in gaining more website traffic. Comments and discussions are updated regularly and the content is beyond the scope of my discussion here, so you really must check this out:

7. Alexa Review Widget(s) – For site owners, Alexa.com has a great piece of code for placement within your site. What this allows for is:

1. Backlinks from Alexa

2. Website visitor interaction

3. More authoritative exposure for yourself  within the online commuinity

8. Top Sites – Using this tab will bring you to Alexa’s interface specifically designed to show you the top sites on the web for that particular day. Keep in mind that these are the top sites in the whole wide world. You can change this setting between country and category. Once you find the tops sites in your category, duplicate what you see in regards to back-linking strategies.  The possibilities for multiple streams of success really are endless.

Let’s take number one for today (and probably a long time to come) Google.com. There is an exhaustive amount of ways to drive traffic to your website from Google…that much is known. But what is not known are specific ways in which you are able to accomplish this. The following resources can give you a good place to start:

9. Building relationships – Aside from all of the technical know-how involved to manuvuere the Alexa website, this topic is one of the most important. In your travels around the web, you’ll want to start building business relationships with like-minded people. I encourage you to leave useful information when commenting other people’s websites, forums and online spaces. In more ways then one, you will be remembered for the content that you share. Why not make that content insightful, helpful and useful to people within the niche that you’re targeting? When you do an amazing post or comment, and socially engineer this comment to point back to your website, you can expect to see a marked increase in your websites traffic.

10. Review and Post To Forums Regularly – Coinciding with several of the above-mentioned tips, you want to create a big presense for yourself on Alexa. It can’t be stressed enough that the more exposure you have on Alexa, the more traffic you will start to see coming to your site. Take, for example, that Alexa has 10 Million + visitors a month. What happens when 10% of those visitors hit their forum? They see YOU (smile).

Hopefully you can put some of these tips to good use. If something from this post works especially well for you, please stop back by and let us know. Thanks!

To your continued success,

Eric Jones
