The Google Apps cloud-based productivity solution suite for business is something that has been around for some time now. With functionality for email, video collaboration, document editing/collaboration, calendar and several other options, this solution falls nicely into the category of online business. Why should you be concerned, you might be thinking? Well, there are several different packages of Google Apps depending on your type of online business.  Cloud computing, utilized by Google Apps, enables businesses to cut IT costs while increasing the collaborative effort amongst organizational members.

What’s more, there are several Apps, within the Google Apps Marketplace, that are free solutions that integrate seamlessly with the basic Google Apps build. Google Apps also boast a 99.9% up time for all of its services. Where this all ties together is in the fact that Google has taken a lot of the IT headaches off of the organization and provided a viable solution that allows business owners the free reign to concentrate on their primary business processes.

One of the best options, that had initially caught my eye, was the functionality to synchronize my gmail account with my mobile for work offline. This is all just the tip of the iceberg where cloud computing is concerned. The ability to conduct business on/offline at your leisure is a power that was unheard of a few years ago. Marketing professionals must take full advantage of what the information age has to offer.

The Google Apps Marketplace is a collection of third-party vendors offering IT services with full integration with Google Apps. Here a business owner is able to browse through hundreds of security, sales & marketing, financial, document management and several other online business solutions.

Google Apps offers 5 different Apps packages depending on the nature of your organization. These packages are:

  1. Free version- The free version allows for up to 50 user accounts. This is good for small-sized organizations.
  2. Business Version – This version comes at a cost of $50 per user annually.
  3. Educational – Reserved for educational institutions, this version comes with a lot of free customizable tools.
  4. Government – Reserved for government agency use.
  5. Non-Profit – Perhaps one of the more interesting Google Apps edition packages, upon acceptance into the App program for non-profits, the Google Apps educational edition can be upgraded to at no charge to the non-profit. If the organization has more than 3,000 members the organization can upgrade to the Business edition at a fee.

Things to keep in mind – All of the above mentioned organization types have marketing departments. Productivity suites such as Google Apps offers more flexibility, greater security, and increased collaboration amongst organizational members. I highly recommend that you find out more about this as soon as you are able.
